RUBY BUTLER

Ruby Butler’s work deals with themes of permanence and decay. She is inspired by the contrast between the ephemerality of the human body and how we collect and adorn ourselves with precious and durable objects. Throughout history, body adornment has been used to comment on the transient nature of life and the human body. Due to this, transient natural phenomena and memento mori jewellery strongly influence her work. The symbolism of animal bones plays a central role in her work as they are objects that are both essential for life and last beyond the process of decay.
