TEXTILE PRACTICES

LIBBY DAWSON

Beneath The Rainforest Canopy is a collection of designs representing the different layers of a rainforest, from the forest floor where beetles and large animals thrive in the dark conditions, to the canopy and emergent layers where sunlight intensifies, trees are towering and birds are gliding.

Each design reflects on the different levels of light starting with a monochrome colour palette where the 2 percent of sunlight is represented through touches of metallic. I have gradually introduced colour where light begins peek through the trees brightening the higher and more open areas of the rainforest. I have used screen printing, embroidery, flock and foiling to enhance my prints.

The collection has been designed for high end urban jungle interiors where lampshades would be a centrepiece amongst collections of greenery.
