JADE THOMAS

Question: How could branding be used to introduce a reflective dialogue about value in to the consumption of fashion goods?

Photographic artist, Jade Thomas showcases her exploration of selfhood through her body of work ‘23&Me: A celebration of identity’. Having lived in the United Kingdom for the most part of her life, Jade embarked on a research trip to Southern Africa (2019) to reconnect with her South African heritage - documenting this through her artistic practice. Jade drew inspiration from distinct sounds associated with both British and South African mores, and created an audio piece that captures the ethnic sounds of these cultures. To accompany the sound installation photographs visually embody the idea of childhood memory, family history and belonging; the essence of this body of work is a celebratory homage to dual heritage and personal identity.
