This work is a response to the historical persecution of witches. Suspects were pricked, shaved and bound; trickery was rife and death often inevitable. Materials and processes echo this brutality as well as reflecting elements of superstition and symbolism.
Sailors believed that egg shells must be crushed to prevent witches sailing away and causing a storm at sea. By incorporating hair, eggshells and pins into bone-like pieces, the aim is to unsettle, intrigue and provoke thoughts about power in society.
