DESMOND MULLANEY

Desmond’s current body of work is in effect a self-portrait. His practice focuses on sculpture and model making and he has used these skills to explore themes of mental well-being and the strategies used to acknowledge, accept and subsequently maintain an emotional balance. Using three dimensional scanning equipment alongside more traditional techniques such as casting and hand built dioramas, Desmond has created a scene which presents a personal insight into the challenges he has faced to achieve his equilibrium. Whilst this piece reflects personal trauma during military service Desmond recognises its relevance to others who have experienced combat stress.
