AMY LOUISE JEFFERSON
Amy is using sculpture as the vehicle to explore the aesthetics of strength, in particular the muscular form in an ambiguous and androgynous manner. Allegorical reference is also made to stories of Greek and Roman mythologies: specifically narratives of physical and mental strength. The artist makes subtle but important reference to gender, exploring the impact that social attitudes towards gender have on the interpretation of the muscular physique.
The work has been made in porcelain; a material that is delicate but also strong and resilient, a duality that adds an additional layer of complexity to the concepts portrayed.
