Adele Retter has produced parafictional record label, Sexton Records, represented by a series of labels which cover-up existing random records. The practice of covering-up on the Northern Soul scene was used to ensure that the title and artist would be changed to protect its original identity from bootleggers and rival DJs. The purpose of parafictions is present plausible fictions which are intended to question the status of truth. Their objective is to provoke the viewer to examine the story’s plausibility and, at the same time, their own subjectivity. They are exercises in scepticism that reference debates about truth in contemporary media culture.
